Austro Control Managing Director Philipp Piber on behalf of the COOPANS-Alliance has taken over as Chair of A6 Alliance from Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak, President of PANSA, the Polish Air Navigation Service Provider with the beginning of 2025.

The handover was made official at a meeting on January 9, 2025, at Austro Control Headquarters in Vienna.


The A6 Alliance comprises the leading Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), responsible for the safe management of more than 80% of air traffic in Europe, and contributing approximately 70% of R&D investments in the future European Air Traffic Management infrastructure.


Air Traffic Management is facing significant challenges in the coming years, from coping with the rise in air traffic to technological advancements in the industry. The A6 Alliance continues to play a key role in addressing these issues and demonstrating leadership in European Air Traffic Management with concrete actions to meet upcoming challenges.


Philipp Piber thanked previous Chairperson Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak for her work over the past 12 months and emphasised that he looks forward to continuing the successful path of the A6 Alliance. “It is my distinct honour to take over as Chair of the A6 Alliance in 2025. Together, we will continue our efforts towards modernising European Air Traffic Management and successfully realising the Digital European Sky. We want to further strengthen the A6-Alliance in its role as a key partner for European aviation”, said Austro Control Managing Director Philipp Piber.

“The chairmanship of the A6 is an honourable mission, but one that requires a great deal of effort. I wish Pillipp Piber success in carrying out this responsibility. I am confident that success in this area will be achieved”, said Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak, President of PANSA



A6 Alliance priorities in 2025 include:

> Taking the next steps towards a European service-oriented architecture that will increase cost efficiency, speed of change and innovation, scalability and resilience.


> Strengthening the SESAR innovation cycle, driving innovation that enhances efficiency, safety, and sustainability of European Air Traffic Management.


> Ensuring continuous dialogue with European key stakeholders, fostering inclusive engagement and guaranteeing that all relevant parties are actively involved in shaping the future of Air Traffic Management.
